Departmental Scholarships

The Anthropology Department gives out the following scholarships most years:

  1. The Anna K.O. Sahagún Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given annually to a CSUSB anthropology major with a GPA of 3.5 or above within the major. Applicants may be of any class level. Preference is given to a student who has resumed his or her education following a significant break after high school and/or an applicant with a keen interest in archaeology.

We usually issue the call for this scholarship in the late fall and announce the winner, determined by a committee of anthropology faculty, in the winter.

  2. The Anthropology Expendable Scholarship

This scholarship is offered each quarter in the amount of $2000. In accord with the donor's wishes, the award is given to a CSUSB anthropology major with an interest in a graduate degree and a career in anthropology or a related field; financial need is considered, but is not essential; first generation students are encouraged to apply; applicants must have at least 3 remaining quarters in their undergraduate program; a student may receive the award up to 3 consecutive quarters; a committee appointed by the chair of the Anthropology Dept is responsible for coordinating applications and selecting each quarter’s awardee.

A call for applications for this scholarship is issued every quarter.
